A young man from Chicago, aged 20, has been presented with a car as an honorary gift after he took immediate action to save a man’s life, who fell onto the electrified rail tracks of a subway.

The man, reportedly involved in a fight, was in a life-threatening situation after falling onto the electrified rail track.

Upon exiting a train on Sunday, June 5, Anthony Perry noticed the distressed man and was faced with the decision to either stand by or intervene. Perry courageously took the risk of electrocution to remove the man from the dangerous situation.

With the assistance of another bystander, Perry administered CPR to the injured man. The incident took place at the 69th Street Red Line CTA station in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood of Chicago.

The injured man is now undergoing treatment and is expected to make a full recovery, as reported by the Chicago Police Department. On June 8, Anthony Perry was honored by a local community leader who awarded him a new car for his courageous actions.

Recounting the moment of the rescue to WGN TV, Perry said, “I don’t think I was thinking about what could happen to me at the moment. It was more of what do I have to do to make the situation peaceful. I felt a little shock. I felt it all over my body actually, and then I just didn’t let that stop me.”

Perry emphasized the lack of action from the bystanders and expressed gratitude for the guidance he received in administering aid to the victim.

The eyewitness, Tavi Ghee, and Fox Chicago were also interviewed and shared their perspectives on the dramatic incident.

When asked about his actions, Perry revealed, “I could’ve kept walking, but I was like, you know what? I’m not going to keep walking – because God wouldn’t want me to do that, so I took action immediately.” He further expressed his relief that the man survived and humbly denied seeing himself as a hero.

After being presented with the car as a token of appreciation, Perry said, “Good does win. Good always wins,” echoing a sentiment of optimism and righteousness.

Chicago Police Department Lieutenant Yolanda Irving commended Perry, stating, “This is just a prime example of how a young man took it upon himself to jump in and do the right thing.”
